A full moon was gleaming down from the velvet sky, barely illuminating the forest she found herself in. It was dark and ghostly sounds could be heard all around. Somewhere a wolf howled mournfully, owls hooted and crickets played their orchestra passionately. She felt weak, disoriented and above all scared out of her wit.
“Good evening ma Cherie.” He grinned at her baring a perfectly white set of teeth. His sudden appearance startled Azaria and she felt her knees buckle a little. She stared back at him uncertainly and at the same time curiously amused. She felt a sense of calm having him there with her. At least she wasn’t alone.
He pulled her towards him. His hold was firm and unrelenting. Their bodies were pressed against each other tightly. She was sure he could feel her heart beating furiously in her chest as she kept her eyes locked on his. A flame danced in those amber eyes as he took her in hungrily and desperately. He breathed heavily, with a desire burning in him to taste her. His breath was warm and sweet. She let him hold her for a while, not wanting to be freed from the security his arms offered her.
He kissed her. And like his eyes his lips were hungry and desperate. A strange sensation took over her as though she were floating, flying, even soaring. She wanted to kiss him some more and having, maybe, sensed this he pulled away. He was taunting her like a lion playing with its prey before delivering that last fatal suffocating bite.
And then he delivered that bite. She felt his sharp fangs pierce into her skin; her warm blood began to leave her body as he sucked it away. It was vicious, ravenous but gentle too. She knew what it was, knew what he was, but as much as she tried to she couldn’t scream. Her throat suddenly felt dry and constricted as though he’d done that too; silenced her so that no one would hear her.
It was only when he’d had his fill and disappeared into the night air that she felt she had control over her actions again. She yelled out: “VAMPIRE”.
But it was too late.
